ANNOUNCEMENT
Mid-week service is scheduled for Wednesday, October
16; I am scheduled to preach for College Grove Grace Church where brother Chris
Cunningham is pastor.

Proverbs 14: 2:
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he
that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

EVERY SERMON
Matthew 28:20: Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you.
Every
sermon must be preached with the awareness that there will be sinners hearing
who do not know Christ or their sin. We
must preach knowing that the only way God will profit, reprove, correct and
instruct in righteousness is through the gospel of Christ and him crucified.
Therefore,
every passage is best expounded by declaring how Christ fulfilled it, glorified
the Father and accomplished the salvation of the elect thereby. Then if it
applies to the believers walk, God will comfort the believer that Christ alone
has made them the righteousness of God.
They will not seek acceptance by their performance of any precept but
God will mortify their flesh as they behold how far short they come of heeding
the instruction. God will give a desire
in the inward man so that they are constrained only by the love of Christ,
which is, the only godly motive.
So before preaching let me ask, “If I were
a lost sinner, after hearing this sermon will I be shut up to the truth that
salvation is by God’s sovereign grace alone, through God’s gift of faith in
Christ alone, and left knowing that my flesh profits nothing?” If so the sermon
will declare the one thing needful; if not, it must be discarded for one that
does!

Faithful
pastors are men who “labour in the Word,” seeking by diligent study and prayer
to rightly understand the Book of God. And they labor in “doctrine,” teaching
and preaching the gospel. They are not loiterers, but laborers.

THE GLORIOUS
GOSPEL OF SUBSTITUTION
The gospel of
Christ the sinner’s Substitute is a glorious theme that I love to preach.
Christ the sinner’s Substitute is glorious in its wisdom that allows God to be
both Just and Justifier. Christ the sinner’s Substitute is glorious in
its scope that saves all of God’s elect from all of their sin. And Christ
the sinner’s Substitute is glorious because of its objects. Christ is the
Substitute for the very worst of sinners and by His blood He makes them white
as snow.

TRUST IN
CHRIST
“…THE SALVATION OF THE RIGHTEOUS IS OF THE LORD: HE IS THEIR STRENGTH IN THE
TIME OF TROUBLE. AND THE LORD SHALL HELP THEM, AND DELIVER THEM: HE SHALL
DELIVER THEM FROM THE WICKED, AND SAVE THEM, BECAUSE THEY TRUST IN HIM” (PSALM
37:39-40) Beloved, this is the very gospel of our salvation—“the salvation
of the righteous is of the LORD” (Psalm 37:39). Now while those that oppose the
gospel of Christ would assert that “salvation is up to you” or “salvation is
left up to the so called ‘free will’ of man”—God’s word declares “Salvation
belongeth unto the LORD” (Psalm 3:8), indeed “Salvation is of the LORD” (Jonah
2:9). You see, God decides to whomsoever He will give it. Salvation does not
belong to man’s worth, or man’s will, or man’s whim; rather, God “saith to
Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion
on whom I will have compassion” and the apostle concludes that salvation “is
not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth
mercy” (Romans 9:15-16). My friend, it is God that shows mercy: Salvation is of
Him; He purposed it, He purchased it, He provided it, and He gives it to His
beloved people undeservedly. Indeed “He shall deliver them from the wicked, and
save them, because they trust in Him.” May the LORD grant reader and writer
alike to ever do that very thing “trust in Him” with the heart that He opens
[Acts 16:14]. AMEN!

Psalm 65:4 Blessed is the man whom thou
choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts.
The Lord in grace performs the work of
salvation in his chosen vessels of mercy. Salvation is his operation of grace in
his people. We who believe are blessed because of his work. Our works didn’t
save us. Our works do not bless us. Paul affirms the source of our blessings
saying “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath
blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”
(Ephesians 1:3).
Accordingly, we do not choose God by our will. Instead God chooses whom
he will. “Blessed is the man whom thou choosest” is how the Lord worded
it. Our will is corrupt and bound in sin and darkness. So God does the
choosing. And God brings forth the work of faith in us. He causes us to
approach him and beg for mercy. He bears the fruit of faith in his people. And
God further reveals to that faith that salvation is his blessed work. He bears
the fruit of thanksgiving and rejoicing in his people for his work. “Ye have
not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and
bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain” (John 15:16). In
spite of the lies that dead religion teaches men, the Lord’s people are brought
into the light of Christ. And in Christ their Lord and Savior they learn that “it
is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth
mercy” (Romans 9:16). Pastor

BEAUTIFYING
HIS HOUSE
Isaiah
60: 9: Surely, the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to
bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name
of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified
thee.
Here God promises the Gentiles (the isles)
shall unite with God’s people. They are those who are “sons” chosen, justified
and called of God (Jn 10: 14-15). Notice,
they come “unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel” When God the Father calls he makes us come
unto him by coming unto Christ, the Holy One. God’s people do not come to a preacher, a
church denomination nor any other name. Christ
said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (Jn 10:
27) What a comfort! What a relief!
No resorting to man-made tactics. We simply preach the gospel and wait on the
Lord to do as he promises! Isn’t it wonderful to believe God!
