“I WILL”

Psalm 91:15

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with

him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

In these few words we see the power and sovereignty of God. When men with sincere hearts call upon the Almighty, God says, I will answer him.” Oh how precious are those two little words, “I will.” What makes them so precious is “who” it is that says them.

That leper who came to Christ, beseeching Him, falling on his face and worshipping Him said, “Lord if you will, you can make me clean.” Oh how that dying man must have rejoiced when he heard those wonderful words of life that fell from the gracious Savior’s lips that said, “I will, be thou clean.” The Holy Spirit inspired these words, spoken by our great God, to be written by the Psalmist, to instill complete assurance and confidence in the child of God! When we call upon Him in need, HE WILL ANSWER US. When we are in trouble, HE WILL BE WITH US. Not only will He be with us, HE WILL DELIVER US. I suppose the most precious part of this verse is where our God promises to “honour us.” May we never forget that God honors elect sinners only in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. What a glorious thought. Christ has made me, the chief of sinners, honorable! David Eddmenson, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, Madisonville, KY

LEAVING US AN EXAMPLE

The Lord Jesus Christ, our blessed Savior, “suffered for us, leaving us an example, that we should follow in his steps” (1 Peter 2:21). If I want to know how to live in this world, I need only to read the four gospels, look to Christ my Example, and follow him.

·       What kind of father should I be? — Look to Christ.

·       What kind of mother should I be? — Look to Christ.

·       What kind of child should I be? — Look to Christ.

·       What kind of friend should I be? — Look to Christ.

·       What kind of husband should I be? — Look to Christ.

·       What kind of wife should I be? — Look to Christ.

·       What kind of neighbor should I be? — Look to Christ.

·       How should I treat my enemies? — Look to Christ.

·       How should I pray? — Look to Christ.

·       How should I forgive men? — Look to Christ.

·       How should I deal with men in business? — Look to Christ.

·       Should I pay my taxes? — Look to Christ.

·       How can I know the will of God? — Look to Christ.

·       How can I overcome temptation? — Look to Christ.

·       How should I treat the poor? — Look to Christ.

·       What is humility? — Look to Christ.

·       What is sin? — Look to Christ.

·       How should a believer suffer? — Look to Christ.

·       What is faithfulness? — Look to Christ.

·       How much should I give? — Look to Christ.

·       What is patience? — Look to Christ.

·       How much of this world’s good should I seek? — Look to Christ.

·       What is it to live by faith? — Look to Christ.

·       What is love? — Look to Christ.

If you have any other questions pertaining to life in this world, look to Christ. And if you would learn how to die, when your life is over, look to Christ. In all things, Christ is our Law, our Teacher, our Guide, our Example. All who want to live in this world for the glory of God need only to follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. EXCEEDING GREATNESS OF HIS POWER: FAITHFULNESS

Ephesians 1: 19: And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20  Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,…

We began last week looking at the exceeding greatness of God’s holiness. But not only was Christ raised by the exceeding greatness of the power of God’s holiness, Christ was also raised by the exceeding greatness of the power of God’s faithfulness.

In the everlasting covenant made before the foundation of the world, God the Son promised the Father that he would glorify God as he saved his people from our sins on the cross. Our gracious Father promised his Son that when Christ finished the work of redemption, the Father would glorify the Son, together with his human nature, with that same glory he had with the Father before the foundation of the world. The Father promised he would give Christ the glory of filling all his people with the Holy Spirit as our glorified Head.

By the exceeding greatness of his faithfulness, Christ kept his promise to the Father on behalf of his people.  Our Redeemer finished the transgression, made an end of sins, made reconciliation for iniquity, brought in everlasting righteousness, sealed up the vision and prophecy and anointed the most holy. (Dan 9: 24) So Christ prayed to the Father, “I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world.” (Jn 17: 4-5)

Likewise, by the exceeding greatness of his faithfulness, God the Father kept his promise to his Son. Being satisfied, being just and the Justifier of “us who believe”, “he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.” (Eph 1: 20-23) By the “faith of the operation of God who raised him from the dead”, “even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” (Eph 2: 5-6) In time the Holy Spirit regenerated us by that same faithful operation. (Col 2: 10-15, 20; 3: 1-4; Ro 6: 1-14)

Believer, try to grasp this. By his faithfulness, our old man of sin is dead and buried and we are risen with Christ!  This is our assurance that by the same exceeding power of faithfulness, our “God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus!” (Php 4: 19)
