Jeremiah 33: 20: Thus saith the LORD; If ye
can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there
should not be day and night in their season; 21: Then may also my covenant be
broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his
throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
There is much promotion of fear in our day
in circles of politics and science over climate change, a depletion of water or
the pollution of water so that people are afraid that God’s creation will not
continue as it has since God created it.
These things may be troubling to the world but there is no need for
believers to be troubled.
We are sure the earth will be held in place
by God, as it has been from the beginning, because God used his constant
maintenance of day and night to show that God would fulfill his everlasting
covenant with David. God promised David that
he would always have a son to reign upon his throne. That Son of David is the Son of God, the
risen Lord and Christ who reigns forever as King of kings and Lord of lords. (Read
Acts 2: 29-36) Also, God used the same covenant with day and night to show that
God shall fulfill his everlasting covenant to provide priests to minister unto
him. Those priests are each of his elect
who are made priests unto God by the blood of Christ. (Rev 1: 5-6)
Therefore, God shall keep the day and the night in their season until
the last of his elect are called to faith in Christ.
Also, there are other examples in scripture
where God uses the continual, consistent working of his creation to show the
continual, consistent working of his grace toward his people by Christ our
Redeemer. God promises, “as the earth
bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in
it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to
spring forth before all the nations.” (Is 61: 11) Therefore, by God’s power, the earth and the
garden shall continue to bring forth her bud because by the same power God
shall continue to call his people out of every nation to behold Christ our
Righteousness and to praise him.
Again,
God promises, “as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth
not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it
may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that
goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall
accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I
sent it.” (Is 55: 10-11) By God’s power the rain and snow shall continue to
fall and shall not return until God has made them accomplish his purpose in the
earth. God has never made any new water
than he created in the beginning. The same
water that drowned every living thing on earth in judgment in Noah’s day is the
water that continues to rain upon us today. But it is God, not man, who has
kept the rain and the snow accomplishing their purpose. The reason they shall
continue to do so is because God used them to exemplify how his word never
returns to him void but always accomplishes exactly what pleases God and always
prospers “in the thing whereto” God sends it.
If God let these natural elements cease
before Christ our King uses his word to call out the very last child he
redeemed then God’s creation would not serve to remind his people of God’s
power to lose none but save each one because of the blood and righteousness of
Christ his Son. Therefore, because
Christ shall not fail, his creation shall not fail. Christ made all these things in creation for
himself, to set forth his glory in the salvation of his people. Therefore,
Christ shall continue “upholding all things by the word of his power.” (Col 1:
16-19; Heb 1: 3)
It is not the fear-mongers that men ought
to heed but the gospel of Christ. Today
is the day to seek Christ while he may be found. For when Christ has called the
last blood-bought child to faith then it is Christ who shall, indeed, cause a
great global warming. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the
night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the
elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are
therein shall be burned up….Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for
new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” (2 Pet 3: 10, 13)
