THIS EVIL GENERATION
"There
is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their
mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own
eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. There is
a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted
up. There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and
their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth,
and the needy form among men." (Pro 30:11-14)
This is the
generation so clearly described above. This is that 'untoward
generation' which the apostle urged us to 'save yourselves from.' This
modern generation . . .
. . Curseth their father, and
doth not bless their mother. This
new age denounces everything of the older generation as old, out of date, not
with the times, despising all that is good, wholesome, decent and right;
things that have their root in God's Word. The fathers and mothers of
days gone by built this country, but this generation is determined to
tear it all down.
. . Pure in their own eyes, and
yet is not washed from their filthiness. 'Filthy'
is the word for this generation. Filthy in talk, habits, appearance. They
make rich and famous the filthiest ones, calling them comedians (fools),
celebrities . .. stars! God calls them filthy. Nothing is forbidden in
the eyes of this generation; nothing is filthy in their eyes . . . yet
they themselves are filthy and stinking. " They are all gone aside,
they are all together become FILTHY . . ." (Psalm 14:2-3).
. . O how lofty are their eyes! and
their eyelids are lifted up. The eyes show it! The thing God
said He hates more than anything, "A proud look"
(Prov.16:16-17), is in the eyes of this generation. O' how
abominable to God and all who love God, is the 'look at me'
look, the 'ain't I something' look, the so-called 'sexy,
come-hither' look that is upon the faces of this generation. God
hates it and says that someday soon, "the lofty looks of man
shall be humbled." - Isa.2:11,17.
. . Teeth as swords, knives . . .
devouring the poor and needy. Cutting
down someone with vicious words is sport today.
Maligning and ruining someone is the
mission of the news media today. Especially hated are the poor and
needy people of God, the true worshippers of God and Christ, to whom the
Lord said: "blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and
persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my
sake."(Matt.5:11). The Truth and the believers of It;
the Holy Word of God, and the Holy people of God, are hated and maligned by this
generation more than any other. So be it. Let God
be true and every man a liar. Who is on the Lord's side? Save your selves
from this untoward generation! Paul Mahan, pastor Central Grace Church, Rocky Mount, VA

THEY FEAR BECAUSE GOD IS IN US
Psalm 14: 5: There were they in great fear: for God is in the
generation of the righteous.
Have
you noticed the closer this world comes to the Day of Judgment the more fearful
the unregenerate world becomes? They are fearful we will run out of water,
fearful of climate change, fearful of guns, fearful of terrorists. Their fear
is of things. One of the false doctrines of our day is separatism—the teaching
that good and evil is in things rather than in the sinner’s own heart. So with
all man’s might he is trying to avoid some things and save other things. He is
full of fear. But most of all, God says
they are “in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.”
God is in his people. He has made us righteous. Through the Holy Spirit,
Christ our God abides within each believer and Christ is in his church. (Jn 6:56; 17:23; Gal 2:20; Rev 1:13;
Phil 1:6; 2:13) Therefore our fear
is of God himself. Believers are not fearful
of things, nor of things the unregenerate are fearful of, not even of the
ungodly themselves. By this the reprobate is reminded he is an enemy of God, “which
is to them, an evident token of perdition.” (Phil 1:28) The Holy Spirit exhorts
us “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of
glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on
your part he is glorified.” (1 Pet 4: 14) We have no reason to even fear their
anger toward us. When they feared in Moses day it was for this reason, “Fear
and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as
still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over,
which thou hast purchased.” (Ex 15: 16) Everything—good and evil—God is working
together “for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according
to his purpose.” (Rom 8: 28) “What can
we say to these things? If God be for
us who can be against us?” (Rom 8:
29-31)

The weaker we feel, the harder we lean. May
God ever make me to know my weakness and give me grace to lean only and always
upon Christ my Strength. Don Fortner,

TIME AND ETERNAL SALVATION
"He became the author of eternal salvation to all of those who obey
Him."(Hebrews 5:9).
We read here
that Christ is the author, or cause of eternal salvation. The salvation that
all of the elect possess is an eternal salvation. It never had a beginning and
will never have an end. Mind boggling, but true! Notice the verse says that “He
is the author of eternal salvation to all them that obey Him.” There is no such
thing as an eternal salvation that is not experienced in time. All who obey Him
in time do so because they were saved in eternity. All who refuse to obey Him
in time were not saved in eternity.
The Lord said
to the Pharisees in John 10:25, in answer to their unbelief, "You believe
not, because you are not of My sheep." Who are these sheep? Christ
distinguishes them in verses 27-29 by these four marks. 1). They hear His
voice. 2). They follow Him. 3). They have eternal life, therefore they persevere.
4). They were given to Christ in election. Todd
Nibert, pastor of Todd’s Road Grace Church, Lexington, KY

Job 1: 20: Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and
fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, 21: And said, Naked came I out of my
mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD
hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. 22: In all this Job sinned
not, nor charged God foolishly.
