Deuteronomy 10:2: And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark….5: And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.

God commanded Moses that the tables of the broken law be put in the ark.  Then Moses turned, came down, and put the tables in the ark and left them there, as the LORD commanded him.

Christ Jesus is pictured in that ark.  The law that every child of God broke in Adam was in the heart of Christ Jesus our last Adam. (Ps 40: 8) Christ our Surety magnified the law and made it honorable by finishing the transgression, by making an end of sins, by making reconciliation for iniquity, by bringing in everlasting righteousness, by sealing up the vision and prophecy, by entering the holiest of holies in God’s presence and anointing it for his people. (Is 42: 21; Da 9: 24) The mercy seat—the propititation—over the ark was the exact dimensions to cover the broken law.  So Christ our Propitiation exactly covers all the sins of all his people. (1 Jn 4: 10)

Now, may God the Holy Spirit give us a new heart to do as Moses.  When we hear God declare in the gospel that the law is established in Christ on our behalf may he grant us repentance that we might turn ourselves and come down; when we hear God declare in the gospel that only through faith in Christ do we establish the law then may we rest our responsibility to the law in Christ through faith; as we continue to hear God declare in the gospel that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes then when we think of looking to the law may we look to Christ and say, “there they be, as the LORD commanded me.” (Rom 3: 28; 10: 4)
