THE INTERCESSION OF CHRIST
Numbers 16: 46-47
Aaron made atonement for them but we read nothing of blood. Yet, we know that almost all things are by law purged by blood (Hebrews 9: 22.) Here we find, Aaron offered up incense for them and made atonement for the people. Burning incense is a type of the Intercession of Christ Jesus on behalf of his redeemed (Psalm 141:2.) The picture here is that the Intercession of Christ for his people is more than a prayer, but his intercessory offering to God is, indeed, himself. Atonement has been made by Christ offering himself to God. Christ intercedes for all those given him of the Father, lifting up his pierced hands, the sacrifice of himself offered in the evening of time, with which God is continually satisfied (Psalm 141: 2.)
