The Scape Goat--Imputation
Leviticus 16: 8, 21, 22
The scape goat is typical of Christ who carried the sins of his children away forever. In verse 21, we see in type how the sin of God's elect people was imputed to Christ (Isaiah 53:4-6; 2 Corinthians 5:21). God made Christ to be sin for his people just as the high priest put all their transgressions in all their sins upon the head of the goat. As the High Priest confessed over the goat all the iniquities of the children of Israel, putting their sin upon the head of the goat, so Christ was willingly made sin for his people, confessing their sin was his sin (Psalm 40: 12).
