Proverbs 15: 25: The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

Paul wrote in Heb. 2:17, "Wherefore in all things it behoved him (was essential) to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people." Can you give three reasons why it was absolutely essential and necessary for our Lord to become a man; bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh?

     1. Unless He was a man, He could not be a high priest to offer sacrifice for sin and make intercession; for the high priest was taken from among men (Heb. 5:1).
     2. Unless He was a man, He would have no sacrifice to offer. He had to shed His blood, for without shedding of blood is no remission (Heb. 9:22-25).
     3. Unless He was a man, He could not be a Mediator nor Advocate with a perfect righteousness to plead (I John 2:1).           Henry Mahan

It seems to me that this religious world, generally speaking, is looking for miracles, while the “Miracle of miracles” is before them!  Oh, “Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see” (Isa. 42:18).  “Behold your God!” (Isa. 40:9), the Lord Jesus Christ.  He is not only the Author of all miracles but is himself the greatest of all miracles!  “Without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh…” (I Tim. 3:16).  WHAT A MYSTERY!!!  WHAT A MIRACLE!!!  WHAT A WONDER!!!              Maurice Montgomery

WHICH WAY ARE YOU GOING?
Genesis 4:1-5

We live in a most religious world. In every county, country and culture; among all people, without exception there is some form of religion. Did you know that all religions can be summed into two groups; the way of Cain or the way of Abel?

Cain represents the way that seems right unto men (Prov. 14:12), the way of the flesh, works, self-righteousness and self-glory; do the best you can and God will be satisfied. Cain approached God with the best efforts of all his labors, "the fruit of the ground" and God had no respect unto him or his offering. It is recorded in the scriptures, “Woe unto them that have gone the way of Cain” (Jude 1:11).

Abel represents the way that God has established throughout scripture to show mercy to undeserving sinners. It is the way of free grace (Rom. 3:24), the way of effectual substitution by a blood offering (2 Cor. 5:21), the way of faith (Heb. 11:1-4). Clearly, Abel and his offering are a picture of the only way of salvation in and through the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). The Lord called Abel a righteous man (Matt. 23:35).

Now, which way are you going? I know that all of us by nature are going the way of Cain, because that is what comes to us naturally. It seems rather logical and reasonable to approach God on the basis of our works. However, our best efforts will never satisfy God’s offended justice (Psalm 39:5; Luke 16:15). God has singled out these two brothers to teach us the way of God’s salvation through faith alone (Heb. 12:2), Christ alone (John 14:6), through grace alone (2 Tim 1:9), through the blood alone (1 Peter 1:18-20), and to plainly condemn the way of salvation by works (Rom. 9:13-15; Titus 3:5).

I pray that God will give us much grace to follow the example of Abel and to seek salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matt. 11:28).

The religious professor receives doctrines because he sees them in the Bible. The believer not only sees them in the Book, but he feels them in his heart, put there by the Holy Spirit. The believer gets at truth through trouble. He arrives at the banquet of mercy through sharp pangs of hunger. He lays hold of the robe of righteousness chilled by nakedness. He comes to the cross because he is guilty and there is nowhere else to go. Thus the religionist and the believer (however they may resemble one another) have an eternal distinction which the hand of God has drawn between the living and the dead.           JC Philpot

DON’T LET FAILURE DISCOURAGE YOU
Bruce Crabtree

" We would have come to you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us"  1Thess.2:18).

Silly people have said, 'If you can think it, you can do it.' Or 'you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it.' There have been  young boys who broke something thinking  they could fly off their dad's house. You can't do everything you set your mind to.

There have been a lot of good people who tried once and failed and are discouraged from trying again. Satan has got the better of their efforts or man has hindered them, or even the providence of God has done it.

I for one have learned as much from my failures as I have from my triumphs. I learned it wasn't God's will for me to accomplish my desire. I learned I was doing it for the wrong motives. I learned that what I do, I must do in faith and leave the results to God. I have learned that not all apparent failure is failure - the day of judgment will prove the truth of that. I am learning to stop complaining when I have a sense of failure.

I am encouraged by the fact that I can and will fail. It encourages me to keep on trying and leave the result in God's hands. I chuckle at the following little poem because I can relate to it:

"They told him it couldn't be done,

With a smile, he went right to it.

He tackled the thing that couldn't be done,

And sure enough, he couldn't do it."
