Proverbs 20:21: An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

ETERNAL SECURITY

“And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.” –Jeremiah 32:40

We live in a world today that promotes security for every man, woman, and child. Men desire to have job security and to be financially secure. Most homes have security systems. Many banks have security guards. Exclusive neighborhoods have security gates. But none of these things have any lasting security. Men lose their jobs. Nice homes in exclusive neighborhoods do get broken into. Banks do get robbed. There is no real or lasting security in any of these things.

But the child of God can have a confident assurance of a security that is always safe, and eternally secure. God always speaks in certain, secure, assuring words. God says, “I will make an everlasting covenant with them.” God says, “I will not turn away from them, to do them good.” God says, “I will put my fear (reverence and confidence) in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.” That, dear reader, is “Eternal Security.” When God says He will, He will. And when God says, “You shall, you shall.” What kind of covenant does God make with His chosen? An everlasting and eternal one.

1 PETER 1:22–2:12

“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.  Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.”

I am not what I might be, I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I wish to be, I am not what I hope to be; but I thank God I am not what I once was, and I can say with the great apostle, “by the grace of God I am what I am.”

–John Newton

To confess Christ is our Righteousness is to confess we have none and can produce none.  It is to confess we are the sinner.

FREE INDEED

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). Someone said, “We are most free when we are most His, and we never stand so straight as when we bow to Him.” The greatest freedom any person can enjoy is to be the Lord’s servant. To know and to submit to His sovereignty, to love and to receive His covenant mercies, to believe and rest in His blood and righteousness, to have and to walk in His precious promises, to trust and to accept His divine providence and His will for me, to lay hold of, and to rejoice in, His good hope through grace is to be free indeed! God is true! All things are of Him, through Him, in Him, and for His glory. All things are given to the Son of God, and all things are revealed to us by Him. Christ is the truth! To know Him is to know the truth, to be in Him is to be in the truth, to have Him is to have the truth, to walk in Him is to walk in the truth and to be SET FREE—free from the errors and fables of men, free from the traditions and ceremonies of religion, free from rituals and superstitions, free from the curse of the law, free to come boldly to the throne of grace in Christ and find mercy and grace!

Henry Mahan

?-----------------------------?

A true recognition of God’s sovereignty will avow God’s perfect right to do with us as He wills. The one who bows to the pleasure of the Almighty will acknowledge His absolute right to do with us as seemeth Him good. If He chooses to send poverty, sickness, domestic bereavements, even while the heart is bleeding at every pore, it will say, Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right! Often there will be a struggle, for the carnal mind remains in the believer to the end of his earthly pilgrimage. But though there may be a conflict within his breast, nevertheless, to the one who has really yielded himself to this blessed truth, there will presently be heard that Voice saying, as of old it said to the turbulent Gennesareth, “Peace be still”; and the tempestuous flood within will be quieted and the subdued soul will lift a tearful but confident eye to heaven and say, “Thy will be done.”
